Throughout the Postmodern era, the interaction of individual and groups with art and craft mediums has undergone noticeable transformations. By manipulating conventional operating mechanisms and inventing new ones for doors, drawers, and lids, Matt subvert's societal expectations as to how furniture functions. Simple everyday expectations are transformed into interactive explorations of games and puzzles. The user(s) discovers that each piece has a sequence of steps that, when completed in the prescribed manner, will culminate in providing access to the internal spaces of the furniture. Individual tolerances, tenacity, and inquisitiveness, along with environmental and generational forces in and around each user will ultimately influence their response to the work.
